[TIPS] Which Buildings to Build When

Post by mockingbird288z »

I recently started (and abandoned with news of the death update) a second game. Having played the game before I thought I knew what buildings and community areas were the most important to build. I was wrong. If it weren't for the simoleon plant and later my own reindeer farm I wouldn't have been able to finish some quests.

So I decided to make a list of the quests and what buildings/community areas they require (based on Perturbee's hard work found here: http://simsfp.blogspot.com/2013/10/whic ... -when.html ) and make a thread where we all could discuss what buildings we each thought were more important to build.

Quests

Tutorial - The tutorial requires the purchase of a fashion design table. The 'Promotions 'R' Us' store is needed for that purchase.

List of Buildings as of March 2014

Work Places
Only the Town Hall is required for quests. Other work places may be required for weekly goals such as 'have 4 sims employed as politicians'. For the politician career to be available the Town Hall has to be built. At the moment I only remember seeing 'have 4 sims be employed as politicians' and 'have 4 sims be employed as firefighters'.
Stadium
Town Hall (required for Higher Education quest)
Art Gallery
Fire Station
Science Lab
Recording Studio
Movie Studio
Real Estate Agency
Elementary School (occupation for adults and school for preteens)
High School (school for teenagers)

Stores
The Pet Store and the Children's Store are the only stores required for quests.
The Salon - pre-built
The Pet Store (required for A Quest for Toddlers)
Promotions 'R' Us - Needed to purchase the fashion design table during the tutorial
Children's Store - (required for Two and a Half Sims)
Costume and Swim Store
Car Lot/Dealership - (required for In Stitches quest) Needed for some weekly goals
such as 'collect revenue from driving' (honestly can't remember the exact wording
but it requires your sim drive a car.
Grocery Store - needed for some weekly goals such as 'buy seeds from the grocery
store'

Community Centers
Almost all community centers are required for quests at some point! The exceptions are the Nightclub, Public Beach, and the Ice Ape Arcade.
Park
Community Center
Swim Center
Snow Park
Nightclub
Public Beach
Ice Ape Arcade

Miscellaneous Buildings
Bingo Hall - Needed for the Seniors quest
Competition Center - not needed for anything. Takes 24 hours of your Sims life with no
guarantee of a good reward (level 6 fashion designer could come home with 4th place).
Monuments - build as you collect the resources. Not needed for quests or weekly goals
beyond the quest that introduces them.
Town Sign - build as you collect the resources
Mysterious Island Bridge - Needed for access to Mysterious Island

Hands down I would say the park should be the first built. The Nightclub, Bingo Hall, and Competition Center can definitely wait to be built. As for the rest, I don't really have an opinion because I started playing before the 'quests' were introduced so I had more freedom building my town. What do all the newer players suggest?

Great list. I could see this being very useful.

The one thing I would say about the nightclub is that it is useful to build up friend relationships. All sims dancing build friend relationships with all other dancers at the same time.

Hehe, if I'd known this when I started I wouldn't have missed out on the toddler dress-up chest! :x

So it looks like I'll need to build the car dealership after all; didn't know it's needed for the quilting quest! Thanks for the tip.

Doesn't the seniors quest require building the bingo hall?

The seniors quest DOES in fact require the Bingo Hall to be built. I'm not sure exactly when during the quest line it will be required, but I know I saw it in Perturbee's blog that it is needed.

I still haven't built the Competition Center at level 31... I don't like sending my Sims away for 24 hours. I think that's the only main building I haven't done yet.

Competition Centre is a waste of time and resources. The maximum reward (unless it's changed) is 3 LP if your sim has reached the highest level and this not guaranteed. You would be better using your sims to garden or hobbies: that is if you have any free from doing life tasks!

There are some houses which come with a car. So if you ahve built one of those the car dealership can postboned. As for the competition center. If I send a sim I cloude save shorly bevor his time is over. If I don't get three lp I reset the game. The reward seem to be rather random. Wver so often I get three lp after resetting once or twice. Since lp are so hard to earn those days and I don't have the time doing hobbies ever so often I rtaher take those when I anyway have not much time to paly and put anyone to hibarnation or long time tasks.

I built the competition centre recently; only the car dealership and bingo hall remain. Granted, I haven't used it yet, but for me considering the limited time I have to play it's potentially useful. Mostly I set my sims up with long tasks. Eventually I'll have more sims than I'll know what to do with, so the competition centre will be good for keeping them occupied. (I haven't gotten to the LD quest yet and am in no particular hurry to get there.)
